Say the capacity, in liters, of the aquarium is x. We have to get the value of x.

Let's take each statement one by one.

1) Three liters is \(\frac{1}{2}\) of the capacity of the aquarium.

=> 3 = x/2 => x = 6 liters. Sufficient

2) One-half liters is \(\frac{1}{12}\) of the capacity of the aquarium.

1/2 = x/12 => x = 6 liters. Sufficient

The correct answer: D

Target question: What is the capacity, in liters, of a certain aquarium?

Statement 1: Three liters is 1/2 of the capacity of the aquarium.
If 3 liters = half the capacity, then 6 liters = the entire capacity
The answer to the target question is the capacity is 12 liters
Since we can answer the target question with certainty, statement 1 is SUFFICIENT

Statement 2: One-half liters is 1/12 of the capacity of the aquarium.
Let C = capacity
So, 1/12 of C = 0.5 liters
In other words, C/12 = 0.5
Multiply both sides by 12 to get: C = (0.5)(12) = 6
The answer to the target question is the capacity is 12 liters
Since we can answer the target question with certainty, statement 2 is SUFFICIENT

Answer: D

Statement 1=> Three liters is 1/2 of the capacity of the aquarium.
Let the capacity of aquarium = c
3 liters = 1/2 of c
3 = 1/2 c
c = 3*2 = 6 litres; statement 1 is SUFFICIENT.

Statement 2=> One-half liters is 1/2 of the capacity of the aquarium
Let the capacity of aquarium = c
1/2 liters = 1/12 of c
1/2 = 1/12 c
c = 12/2 = 6 liters. Statement 2 is SUFFICIENT.

Each statement alone is SUFFICIENT.
Therefore, option D is the correct answer.
