Let's take each statement one by one.

1. x + y = 20

=> (x + y)/2 = 20/2 = 10. Sufficident.

2. 2x + 4y = 54

=> x + 2y = 27. Can't get the unique value of (x + y)/2. Insufficient.

The correct answer: A
