Adcoms will occassionally put applicants on the waitlist without an interview, but it is rare (if ever) that someone would be admitted to a program without a formal interview. I'll keep my fingers crossed that UCLA invites you to interview soon!

I do have the same situation being wait listed without an interview with Cornell and I am very worried about that now..

Don't worry! Being waitlisted means they like you. Adcoms don't waitlist people unless they think they are viable candidates. All you can do now is wait - the hardest part!

Wow, thanks for sharing. Have you reached out to the school? Have you sent in additional information, test scores, recommendations, etc? It might be worth connecting with someone on the adcom just to get a sense for timing.

I went to campus and dropped by the admissions office to let them know I am interested in the school and if there was anything I could do to improve my candidacy. They said that CBS admits people without interviews and I shouldn't be concerned, but I am a bit skeptical. I was planning on reaching out to them again once the regular decision application deadline passes (4/11).

I think staying in touch is a good idea. It might also be helpful to have others engage on your behalf. Do you have friends or colleagues who attended the school? If so ask them to send recommendation letters on your behalf - in particular if they can comment on your fit with the program.
