Purpose of prep phrase in a sentence

prepositional phrases can serve the purpose of adverb or of adjective.
over a range of frequencies is a prepositional phrase.
infact it is a prep phrase and within that prep phrase we have another prep phrase
over a range--> prep phrase modifying humans (noun )
of frquencies--> prep phrase modifying range( noun )

Construction of prep phrases
first word is preposition
ends with noun/ noun equivalent. Noun can have further modifiers attached to it.
( no verb though, therefore it is a phrase. phrases lack verb. Clauses have verb. )


Now have a look at SC under discussion
humans over a range of frequencies

humans--> noun
over a range--> prep phrase

as over a range is prep phrase
and as prep phrase can serve the purpose of adj or adv, its position/ placement in a sentence determines whether it is serving the funtion of adj or adv.

humans over a range of frequencies
what is the position of over a range of frequencies?
it is placed adjacent to noun (humans)

Therefore it serves the function of adjective ( adjectives modify noun and are placed next to nouns that they modify)

The question is can over a range of frequencies, a prep phrase, modify noun (humans)?
SURE! because it is a prep phrase.
prep phrase can modify noun.
But the problem is, in doing so, the meaning becomes nonsensical.
In GMAT SC, not only grammar but also meaning is a thing.
Grammar should be correct.
Meaning should also be sensical.

Here Grammar is correct.
Meaning is nonsensical.

No. We can also modify adjectives with constuctions that can function as adverbs(i.e in the same way adverbs function in a sentence)

remarkably.

when?/ where is sensitivity similar?
over a range of frequencies from 100 to 5,000 hertz

which frequencies?
