The combined area of the front and back of a rectangular sheet of paper measuring 11 inches by 17 inches = 2*17*11 sq inches

The combined area of the front and back of a rectangular sheet of paper measuring 8.5 inches by 17 inches = 2*8.5*11 sq inches

So, the required percentage increase = [(2*17*11 – 2*8.5*11)/(2*8.5*11)]*100% = 100%

Correct answer: C

Solution:

We see that one of the dimensions of the two rectangles is equal while the other dimension of the larger rectangle is twice that of the smaller rectangle. Therefore, the combined area s of the front and back of the larger rectangular sheet is twice that of the smaller rectangular sheet, i.e., 100% greater than that of the smaller rectangular sheet.

Answer: C
