Let's take each statement one by one.

(1) xy is even.

For xy to be even, at least one between x and y must be even. So x can be odd or even. Insufficient.

(2) x + y is even.

For x + y to be even, either both x and y are even or both x and y are odd. Insufficient.

(1) and (2) together

The only condition is both x and y must be even. Sufficient.

The correct answer: C
