Say the number x = ab.cd, where c = tenths digit and d = hundreths digit
We have to get the value of c.
Let's take each statement one by one.
(1) The hundredths digit of x is 5.
=> x = ab.c5. Can't get the value of c. Insufficient.
(2) Number x, rounded to the nearest tenth, is 54.5.
Case 1: x = 54.5d, if d ≤ 4
Case 2: x = 54.4d, if d ≥ 5
Since the value of d is unknown, the unique value of c cannot be known. Insufficient.
(1) and (2) together
Thus, only Case 2 is applicable; hence, c = 4. Sufficient.
The correct answer:
C
Hope this helps!
