I have two questions:

1) To me B is correct as COMMA + ING modifier ", arguing in a treatise............ for women" modifies Lucretia Mott, the subject in the preceding clause (I am coming from Stacy Koprince's comments on COMMA + ING modifier in https://www.beatthegmat.com/ing-modifier ... 43-75.html (pg 6) in which she says such a modifier can modify the subject of the preceding clause (one among the three scenarios). I noted your comments on why B is wrong (https://www.beatthegmat.com/please-help- ... 81781.html) but under timed condition would possibly choose B in the actual test (also see below for my reasons for eliminating E).

2) Reasons to eliminate E: To me argued should have been argues because the Discourse on Women still advocates for women's rights......(I am not 100% sure of the tense usage here, but preferred B to E mainly because of this). So, to me, the revised sentence should be "In 1850 Lucretia Mott published her Discourse on Women, a treatise that argues for equal political and legal rights for women"

Problem with B is "in a treatise" we do not know which treatise is being talked about.
If B had been arguing for equal political and legal rights for women then it would have been be correct

For E, We are only sure about past (when treatise was published) what is treatise is not present anymore
