Scored Q50 and V32 - 690 (missed the mark by 10pts)

I was happy with my scores because in all the mock test I did, I scored between 600-640. I always used to complete quant section in 40 mins max and used to score 45-48. A day before my actual test I scored 560 in Knewton's test but I did not allow it to let me down. In the exam I back calculated quant answers to ensure I am selecting the right answer. In all I went there with only one strong point. In verbal I even randomly selected atleast 5 questions so still very happy to see 32 in verbal.

At the end I scored 690, I am still confident that if rest all go smooth I may be able to get into the college of my choice but just now I noted that there is another person who scored Q50 and V32 but his total score is 710 that is 20 points higher then me despite same individual score. This disheartened me big time. can anybody tell me what wrong could have happened??

I am planning to write again to get 700+ as this may be a criteria of companies during placements.
Can anybody throw some light on this please?

Congrats...You got great score...It shoudnt bother you that you got 10 points less or some got 20 points higher that yours.....

Yes i understand that its disheartning ...to see similar scores with higher points but thats how CAT exams are supposed to be....

You got a big improvement from your mock tests and the actual one..You should enjoy ..focus on your profile ..prepare essays ...

I am sure you will get through your dream univ.

Congrats on the score. GMAT is just one part of the deal. bu writing a solid app you should be able to get through. think of it like this: if you take gmat again, you wont be able to apply in round 1 of most US schools. Apply now and if you wont get acceptance then you can apply round 3 again by writing the GMAT.

@maihuna It's plain simple - rounding off of scaled scores.

Sorry to say but I disagree with your comment that rounding off can have 20pts impact.
20points are too much to result from rounding difference.

Scoring 50 points higher than your best mock test score is a wonderful accomplishment. It's interesting that some students crumble under the official testing conditions and others (like you) flourish.

Compare 49.5 to 50.4 in math and 31.5 to 32.4 in verbal. That's a LOT of difference.

But can some experts confirm if it is so? That looks surprising and impossible.
