Hey all,

I recently took the GMAT(650-47/34). I have 2+ years of sap experience(2008-2010) and around 1 year entrepreneurship experience(2010-till date). I somehow took out a month and took the GMAT but I have little idea what to do next. I have got back to work and really finding difficult even to sit on google and research my MBA programs.

However I do wish to apply this fall. (eying-nanyang, rotman, duke's, sp jain )

Should I hire a consultant ? I have pretty solid list of recommendations from my IT experience as well as from my current work area.

Kindly advice.
Cheers !!

You have good experience. If I were you, I would re-take GMAT and apply for top schools, unless you have 'specific' interest in those schools. You might also want to speak to alumni from your target schools and other top schools so that you know what you can expect. Good luck!

hiring someone will not help if you cannot find time to do the work! it's a lot of work.... I suggest finding some extra time to work on your apps a priority. don;t need as much time right now, but will for sure starting summer.

Hi BBlast,

Good job on taking the GMAT. I agree with InterviewBay that if you have the time and desire, you should study for the GMAT some more and retake it to try and get a higher score.

My interpretation of you saying that you are "finding it difficult to sit down and research programs" is not that you lack time but that you lack the motivation right now to start the process. This is understandable since there is SO MUCH information out there, it can be really overwhelming to figure out where to start.

If this is indeed the problem you are encountering, I suggest you do the following things:

1) Get back to work. You want to have experiences and accomplishments to write about in your essays!

2) Study to retake the GMAT again in 2-3 months.

3) Buy yourself an MBA application book. One I enjoyed using when I was applying is Your MBA Game Plan. Buy yourself one or two good books that you enjoy reading and find helpful. If you buy more than that at this point, you may end up getting overwhelmed and becoming paralyzed in the process.

4) Begin putting together a spreadsheet of 7-10 schools that interest you and their requirements for applying. Rishi Raj posted a great resource that summarizes the stats from the top schools. Here it is in another thread: https://www.beatthegmat.com/us-business- ... 69859.html

5) Consider working with an admissions consultant who will patiently guide you through the process (and give you a proverbial kick in the butt when necessary) but also consider joining some sort of MBA applicant support group. In the US, Meetup.com offers the opportunity for fellow applicants living in the same area to get together to study, learn, strategize, etc. Having peers that are also applying and that can hold you accountable in person can be very helpful.

Best of luck!

Hey all,
I am planning a retake with 3 months of solid study atarting 1st april 2011.

I have already appeared gmat once 47/34-5.5, looking for a high 700 now and apply to ISB/Insead/Nanyang this year(2012-2013). studied only 37 days last time over for a decent splitted 650. Got calls from a couple colleges this year but not taking it up.

Profile by august 2012 : Professional experience - 4 years
2 yr top IT.
2 yr entrepreneurship.
1.5 year TEO(the earth organization south africa)-NGO-exec head operations- India.
Engineer from Univ of Pune, decent grades all over.
I am a good writer of essays/sop's. I reviewed the GRE sop's of a few friends and my personal goal essays are also surprisingly good as per feedback of most people who read them.

Also this year I had applied to all colleges for OTM(operations and tech management). I dont think its intelligent for me to get back to IT after a long break of 2 years.

How is OTM at ISB/Insead ? anybody knows abt employment opportunities that come up for the same? I dont wanna come back to own business immediately after an MBA.

I am planning eveything in advance for next year. This year I went with a slack approach and screwd up eveything.
Cheers !!

As someone who exhausted this process I was going to suggest that you do everything that Kaneisha said. Literally everything! Thank's Kaneisha because I don't have to type that all out now!
My goal is to make MBA applicants take onus over their process.
