Veritas Books vs. Manhattan GMAT - Which is Better???

Good Morning All,

I have a bit of a unique conundrum.

I have taken two courses for GMAT prep - Veritas and MGMAT.

The major question I am facing is...how to study the "right" way? I like the Veritas books, but I feel MGMAT may get into more detail. What would everyone recommend for preparation without me getting "too confused"?

I have exactly two more months until test day. I am going to take a practice test, to gauge where I am currently at.

Second Question: How many practice tests should one take?

Thanks all. My initial strategy was to go over both sets and fill in information where needed. What would you all do?

I checked veritas and it looked abundant, especially if one has only have 2 months left.
Why did you signup for 2 courses anyway ?

Are you saying you purchased the TWO COURSES - like Classroom courses or that you purchased the 2 BOOK SETS. I have not taken any of these courses. But in my opinion, follow only one of the two. If you follow both, you would have an information overload.

This goes for the books too. After preparing for so long, I have realized this much - all these test prep companies cover good necessary amount of curriculum. Yes, some may be more detailed than others. For example, Veritas Prob and Permutations book is definitely a lot more detailed than MGMAT's. Likewise MGMAT's SC is more detailed than Veritas' counterpart. But at the end of the day, its your approach that makes the difference. You can learn the rules from all these sources but you should have a process in mind to follow to solve the questions.

So my 2 cents, pick one of the two courses and go with it. Make sure you get the process clear in your mind. Make sure you take good notes/revision points.

Hello there,

Thanks again for your input. I agree, deep.amangmat I will just focus on one. I really appreciate the encouragement - I WILL SURVIVE! HA HA HA...I know I will. I agree with you - MGMAT's SC book is a bit better. I definitely have some great notes. I think I have made about dozens of flashcards by now...quite a few! Yes, I purchased two classes.

I think your question, callbantu, is a fair one. I took the MGMAT course years ago. Then, I became very ill, and had to redirect my focus on that. Thus, I felt like a lot of that knowledge needed to be reinforced. I got a great deal on the Veritas class, so I went for it.

Best of luck to both of you on the GMAT. We can do it.

Hello,

I am about to register for a course as well. I am undecided between manhattan gmat, kaplan and the veritas gmat prep courses. I like the veritas because it offers more hours, but I don't know how the quality of each is. Any suggestions as to what I should take? Thank you so much.

You can take a look at the verified reviews that have been submitted by actual students. These reviews are at "GMAT Course Reviews" at the top of the page. Since you are specifically talking about courses that should help. It is probably better to look at those since you know that these are people who have taken the courses and not just someone who has responded to a posting.

As to the 42 live in-class hours for the Veritas course compared to fewer hours for the other courses, all I can say is that 42 hours is barely enough...

We have colleagues and friends at Veritas, and i think if you want a CLASS, MGMAT and VERITAS are both fantastic options - - but remember they are one-size-fits all. If you can benefit from that GREAT, Pick one, and go for it.

For the best bang for your buck - - you might consider working with a tutor, privately, who knows the systems that are out there, and will be able to craft a personalized program that will address your PERSONAL needs. You should not have to adapt to a learning that doesn't suit you, or fill in the blanks. Also, no need to spend excess time in a classroom if you can learn what YOU need to know and apply it immediately.

Many of our clients have gone through the biggies - - Kaplan, TPR, MGMAT, Veritas -- and even now, the newbies are calling up in droves - - Knewton and Grocket -- why? because while these companies provide great programs there isn't alot of adaptation or a human touch. They don't address:

The intricacies/nuances of the tests.
What kind of learner you are.
Are you anxious?
Do you want a score 700+?

Students come to us to get those last 40 - 100 points. And they wind up having to pay for two - three classes b/c we don't have a 'veritas/mgmat/kaplan, etc.' discount plan.

If you want to get the best score consider a private tutor who has already worked with the big companies, can translate their own success into that of their students - - the way our tutors do -- and who have consistent, comprehensive materials... Just sayin....
