Although is a conjunction grammaticaly. And OG mentions that "Although" is used typically to introduce subordinate clause. Could someone site some exapmles in which "Although" can be used to intrduce a phrase or anything other than a clause ?

Although often confusing, the GMAT sentence correction questions can be handled effectively.
