Unlike traditional retailers that deploy one new product line per season, delivering new looks every few weeks has enabled fast fashion clothing retailers to respond to fluctuations in demand and media events and stay ahead of the competition.
(A) delivering new looks every few weeks has enabled fast fashion clothing retailers to respond to fluctuations in demand and media events and stay
(B) fast fashion clothing retailers deliver new looks every few weeks, enabling them to respond to fluctuations in demand and media events, and stay
(C) the delivering of new looks every few weeks has enabled fast fashion clothing retailers to respond to fluctuations in demand and media events, staying
(D) fast fashion clothing retailers, by delivering new looks every few weeks, have been able to respond to media events and fluctuations in demand and stay
(E) fast fashion clothing retailers, by delivering new looks every few weeks, have been able to respond to fluctuations in demand and media events and stayed

This sentence correction question highlights the need to pay close attention to details and to the meanings, or possible meanings, conveyed by the sentences created by using the various answer choices. One could study grammar rules for months and by relying exclusively on those rules still not find the issues in the sentence created by using answer choice B.

There are two issues with B.

The first you run into involves enabling them. The retailers are enabling themselves, and so that's what the sentence should say, "enabling themselves". By using the wording enabling them, the sentence seems to convey that the retailers are enabling the new looks to do things.

The second involves the wording respond to fluctuations in demand and media events. The meaning conveyed by this wording is ambiguous. The meaning could be fluctuations in demand and fluctuations in media events.

D uses an entirely different structure, one that does not include the enabling them issue.

Also, because in D the order of fluctuations in demand and media events is reversed so that the wording is instead media events and fluctuations in demand, the meaning ambiguity that is present in B is not present in D.
