My pick is D.

(D) Natural gas, the United States' second biggest fuel source after crude oil, is supplied almost exclusively from reserves in North America.
Modifier is perfectly delimited by comma.

A - awkward opening of the sentence also United States..it should be United States's..
its very easy to fall in trap because United States ends with s.
B - same error as that of A
C- being is not encouraged on GMAT, so avoid it.
D. perfect pick and fits the bill.
E. avoid being in the options...

hope this helps..

Thank you so much. That was a perfect explanation. My choice was A. Just one thought other than the "united States" problem are there any grammatical error in the sentence?

(A) After crude oil, natural gas is the United States second biggest fuel source and we need a verb here supplied almost exclusively from reserves in North America.
(B) Natural gas, after crude oil the United States second biggest fuel source, supplied almost exclusively from reserves in North America.meaning altered it seems crude oil is second biggest fuel source
(C) Being supplied almost exclusively from reserves in North America, natural gas, the United States second biggest fuel source after crude oil.it seems the US is being supplied
(D) Natural gas, the United States' second biggest fuel source after crude oil, is supplied almost exclusively from reserves in North America.correct
(E) Natural gas is supplied almost exclusively from reserves in North America, being the United States' second biggest fuel source after crude oil.passive

D is the natural choice as in 'A' verb 'is' is missing :)

'and' is pair --what is before and should also be present after and

natural gas is the United States second biggest fuel source and " 'is' is missing in A" supplied almost exclusively from reserves in North America.

Hope it will help :)

Use of apostrophe is necessary. So, we rule out a, b, c.
d. It is grammatically and logically correct statement.
e. The statement followed by 'being' should come just after Natural gas.
Hence,d is the answer.
