unfair question...powerscore

since 2000, the number of registered lobbyists in Washington, D.C. have grown by more than twice, due to the government growing rapidly and the single party control of the executive and legislative branches.

a. same
b. has more than doubled, due to government growing rapidly
c. has grown by more than twice, due to the rapid growth of government
d. have grown by twice as much, due to the government rapidly growing
e. has more than doubled, due to rapidly growing government

choice a and d need to be eliminated because HAVE. B doesnt sound right. what is the difference between e and c?

qa is E but i chose C

The correct idiom is more than double not more than twice, therefore a, c and d are wrong. Between b and e-- e is correct as rapidly is adververb .

you have to use singular after of "the number of registered lobbyists"

so only choice b, c, e left

i think you have to use a noun after the "due to Noun".
it's WRONG to use "Preposition + NOUN + Participle"
"to + government +growing"

Correct me if im wrong :)
