Two people measure each other's height, the height of the taller person is H and the height of the other person is L. If the difference in their heights is equal to the average height, what is the value of H/L?

A. 1/3
B. 1/2
C. 2
D. 3
E. 6

The OA is D.

I get the solution as follow,
$$H-L=\frac{H+L}{2}$$
$$2H-2L=H+L\Rightarrow \ H=3L\Rightarrow \ \frac{H}{L}=3$$
Is there another approach to solve this PS question? Can any experts help, please? Thanks!

Alternate approach:

Let the average height for the 2 people = 2.
Since the difference between the two heights must be equal to the average of 2, L must be 1 LESS THAN 2, and H must be 1 MORE THAN 2, so that L and H are 2 apart from each other.
Thus:
L = 2-1 = 1.
H = 2+1 = 3.
H/L = 3/1= 3.

The correct answer is D.

The OA is D.
We can create the equation:

H - L = (H + L)/2

2H - 2L = H + L

H = 3L

H/L = 3

Answer: D
