What is the least possible distance between any two of the tick marks on the number line segment from 0 to 1?

(1) The segment has been divided into fifths also, and indicated by the large tick marks.

(2) The segment has been divided into sevenths also, and indicated by the small tick marks.

I am sure there is a trick to answer this question. But, in just under 2 mins I can think of only D as my answer. I felt both the statements divided the line in equal lengths & so are sufficient independently.

Will wait for the answer & explanation :-)

This is Sanju's attempt to create a DS question from the PS question which says what is the min distance between any two tick marks on 1 unit long line which has marking for the fifth and also the seventh distances.
Good try Sanju, greatly appreciate it.

Now let me try this problem.

Stmt 1. If the line has been divided into fifths, then the least possible distance a fifth because the distance between any two marks is a fifth.
sufficient

stmt 2. same logic as before. answer is a 1/7. sufficient.


I dont see why it cant be D. In case the answer is not D, then the answer is C which is 1/35

Sanju, pls let know ur thoughts.

It feels like I've been caught red-handed by vittal here :D He is right there, I have really translated a PS to DS, but not because of lack of thoughts or ideas. It's a mere improvisation indeed.

Well, that is said...

Now in my humble opinion, D can't be our choice as each statement uses the word 'also', which leaves more options open. Hence OA is not D for me at least! :)

Moreover, vittal, if C by any chance were correct alphabetically, then 1/35 is still not correct numerically. What do you think?

Well Sanju!!. I dint pay much attention to "also".. my bad. then in that case each stmt is saying that there are markings of some "nths".
So answer is E coz we have no knowledge of "also" here.
