My suggestion is that you spend some time working on your "known" areas of improvement. Once you know which areas need tweaking - you should consider a personal tutor.

Considering I am a personal tutor myself I don't want my clients to "waste" time learning stuff they can pick up from a book. A tutor should essentially be able to do the following 3 things:

1. Help you "think" through the process by solving tough questions and taking you through the process. The "teach someone to fish" strategy so you are able to analyze your own weakness better.

2. Spot areas of improvement in your preparation/approach which you are not able to spot yourself. This is typically a tough task and can be done only if you sit through a few hours of sessions solving questions with the tutor.

3. Keep you on the straight and narrow on what needs to be done, and give you quality questions that will challenge your current level of preparation. Essentially someone who helps you save time by telling what needs to be done.

Given your location, I believe that you are looking at a Live Online Course, which is the full course offered in an interactive online format. If you go to the Veritas page you can see the schedules for these courses. With tutoring you would likely be looking at online tutoring as well.

Here are the differences.

Cost: The online course will be less expensive than the tutoring.

Comprehensiveness: The course is 42 hours long and will cover a great deal of methods, techniques, tips, strategies, etc.

Flexibility: The tutoring will be scheduled at your convenience and when you need it. The course is on a set schedule although there are a variety of course schedules available.

Targeted: Tutoring can be more targeted to what you need . However, I would caution that it is tough to know what you actually need. I have lots of tutoring students tell me that they do not need to look at the quant only to realize that they do not have the GMAT-specific strategies they need.

At this point I might say to try to the course because you get so much information and so much value for the money. A few tutoring hours can also be added if needed.

The one variable is the Timing: You are scheduled for January 26th? You will have to check the schedules and see that there is a course that will fit that time frame.

In my past experience I had private tutoring but it didn't help me much. I mainly solved questions from OG and Kaplan books, and reviewed mistakes. I think that I lacked a systematic approach, and courses should help to plan yourself and identify right strategies for the test. For me the verbal part is really tricky as I have never before learned topics related to reasoning and logic. What do you think?

I didn't decide yet to take a test on Jan 26. Depending on course schedule, I will change my test date.

I think that if you are leaning toward a course that that would be the right direction for you. The verbal section is all about having a strategy for each type of problem and the Veritas course will give you that. (by the way, you don't need to have formal logic just a more natural "GMAT logic").
