Let it be x minutes to 6 O'clock.
Then time = (6 hours - x minutes)
Before 50 minutes, time = (6 hours - x minutes - 50 minutes) = 4x minutes + 3 hours
Solving, 3 hrs = 4x + x + 50 minutes
3 hrs = 5x + 50 minutes
3 * 60 minutes = 5x + 50 minutes
180 = 5x + 50
5x = 130
x = 26 minutes

Is it just me, or is the wording of this problem off?
