usually we don't chose an option whcih changes the meaning of the original question.
So, A has a clear meaning...we dont need to change it...

Hi Rahul,

Can you please help me understand how "D" and "E" are wordy..(based on no. of words ?)....

I think there must be some grammatical reason based on which "D" and "E" must be wrong....I have seen couple of OG examples where the correct answer is the largest size one...so i think if there will no other reason then surely we can kick out on the basis of wordy strategy :-)

Why the similar logic is not applicable in the sentence at hand.

I think bot the questions follow similar reasoning. Setting free THE more than 500 slaves and Although about 99 percent of THE more than 50 million Turks, both the sentences have same structure "THE MORE THAN..."
