A train without stoppages travels at 60km/hr.

With stoppages it travels at 40km/hr.

What is the time taken for stoppages on a route of 300 km.

According to me the answer should be 2.5 hrs. However the book i refer to has it as 20 hours.

Am i making a silly mistake somewhere

If the data given here is correct then book has a printing mistake, and you are right ! Move On !

Hi does your book tell you 20 hours? May be it tells you only 20?
From what I read and able to solve in this problem => the train stops every 20 minutes on its route OR 40/60=40 minutes OR 20/60 hours i.e. 20 minutes on average spent for the stoppages every hour; If your question asks you the time spent for stoppages on a route 300 km then the answer is (300/40)*1/3=2.5 hours
