OPTION A:- INCORRECT
This question looks correct, but a careful look at it, you will observe that the gerund providing is not preceded by a preposition which is supposed to introduce it. This makes this option correct.

OPTION B:- INCORRECT
Incorrect use of the article the it is not needed in this case. It can be introduced in a fashion that does not introduce the article.

OPTION C:- INCORRECT
This option suffers similar fate as option A above, as providing which is a past participle of provide is supposed to be preceded by 'The preposition to'.

OPTION D:- INCORRECT
This option does not follow parallelism. To provide alternating food sources illogical statements and does not follow parallelism.

OPTION E:- CORRECT
This is the correct option as it follows correct parallelism. To provide the alternative sources of food
