A population of game ducks at a western lake contains 55 males to every 45 females, while a population of game ducks at an eastern lake contains 65 males for every 35 females. Among those ducks that have not yet bred there are only slightly more males than females, but among older ducks the number of males greatly exceeds the number of females. Because there are appreciably more males among adult ducks than among young ducks, we can infer that the greater the disparity in overall GMAT ratios, the greater the percentage of older male ducks in the population.
Which one of the following can be inferred from the passage?
(A) The population of game duck at the western lake contains a lower percentage of adult males than the population at the eastern lake contains.

I wonder what the source is? LSAT ?

This question is surely tough because the comparisons made dont correlate with each other very well ...

e.g in the second sentence non bred ducks are discussed and then compared to older ducks ?? (shouldnt this be between non bred younger ducks and older non bred ducks)

so the comparisons seem very flawed or maybe im getting confused ...so please quote the source

First of all, only fraction is mentioned here i.e. 55 males for every 45 females in west and 65 males for every 35 in east.. hence 'total number of' options can be ruled out.. so C, D are definitely out.
when disparity is more elder males are more... east has more disparity has more adult males.. hence A

this is a wonderful CR & wish Testluv shares his gyan!

Still I am doing my part over here...

Overall picture that we can get from the argument is that the greater the disparity in overall GMAT ratios, the greater the percentage of older male ducks in the population.

Among the 2 categories( westlake & eastern lake) , greater disparity in over all GMAT ratio can be seen in Eastern lake.

So, A fits the bill. By plugging in numbers for other optiosn u can easily eliminate them.
