Top 15 schools for Management Consulting

Hi,

I'm planning to take GMAT in Sept. 2011 and am looking for schools which offer good Management Consulting programs. By good, I mean the place where I will be able to break-even after my education loan in the shortest time possible.
I have a work experience of 5 years in IT and SW development.
Also please let me know if there are any APAC(Australia included) schools which figure in the top 15.

A few things you need consider:

1. "I will be able to break-even after my education loan in the shortest time possible." is a bad reason to want to do an MBA.

2. Management consulting is not just which school you graduate from - it also depends on factors such as your undergrad, your career progression, extra-curricular. Consulting firms look for a "spike" in 1 of the 3 areas.

3. There are no "specializations" or "rankings" for Management Consulting. The general rule is that the higher the overall rank of the school the better your chances. So a Harvard >> McCombs (as an example).

The proof is in the pudding of recruiting. You should look at the management consultant companies you are interested in and see their recruiting numbers by school. Alternatively, you can request the same information from the schools you are interested in.

Hi,

I'm planning to get ready for the applications for the next academic year.

Actually, I don't have a solid GPA, 2,5.

My work experience is quite well. I worked for Ersnt&Young, Loreal, Henkel and I'm working at GSK as a key accounts manager.

Next year, my total work experience will be 6 years.

Considering my poor GPA and combining it with my solid work experience, can I have a chance to be admitted to one of the TOP b-schools with a solid GMAT

Hi SloMoe,

In terms of the big international firms that recruit heavily, the MBA programs they focus on are:

Harvard
MIT
Stanford
Kellogg
Chicago
Michigan
Wharton

Kellogg has an outrageous number of people going to McKinsey, for example. Many of these firms only recruit at select schools. Or they recruit at their top six schools and then will also do some more local recruiting for local offices.

It can be really difficult to land at McKinsey or BCG if you do not go to a school that they recruit at. This is why I recommend contacting HR and just asking - do you recruit at x school? Where do you recruit?

Of course there are other schools that have good curriculum to help with consulting, and smaller boutique firms will recruit.
