Hi Stacy,

Fairly new to the forum and just took my GMATs this morning (wish I would've known about this forum leading up to it - randomly came across via a google search).

In any case, I took my GMATs for the third today and got a 640 and am a bit disappointed. (Previous times have been 550 / 590 - didn't have much preparation and I took the Manhattan GMAT prep course for my 3rd attempt which did help).

My target school is Duke Part-Time which states their average GMAT score is 640-650 which puts me in the hunt. However, I'm still disappointed and wanted to break 700 to increase my chances of admission.

I've had 7+ years of finance experience (for a large Fortune 500 firm), with 3 years of management experience, a 3.2 GPA from NYU Stern, and a good amount of extracurricular activities .

My question was whether you think I should retake the GMATs for a 4th time to achieve a score of 700 or if you suggest to still apply given my experience. I am fully aware that my GPA/GMAT are average at best, but not sure if taking a GMAT for a 4th time hurts my chances (have read mixed reviews on the forum).

Dear Jared,

Depending on how well you write and do in interviews, as well as how strong your recommendations will be, you probably have a good chance at a 640. I'm not sure any increase in your score on the 4th attempt will be enough to really make a difference in the ultimate decision. Since you are applying to the part-time program, your work experience is critical, so be sure to highlight your career progression and successful track record in your resume and essays. If you do decide to apply with the 640, be sure to apply in the first round.
