To have 2nd MBA

by ashishaim » Wed Oct 01, 2008 12:57 pm
Hi Stacy,
Below is my profile:
MBA 2003 from a reputed MBA School in Asia (among top 5 schools as per 2001 rankings)
Post-MBA 5 years of experience in Marketing and now looking to move to management consulting.
Targeting top B-schools in US and looking for a score of 720+.
Would like to know if already having an MBA be discouraged by top schools? What is their take on this kind of profile?
Regards
Ashish

Your challenge will be to clearly demonstrate what a second MBA can offer that your first does not. This will be a tough sell so you need to have a well thought out reason as to why you are pursuing a degree that you already have and also communicate how it will contribute to your future plans.

Finally, not all schools accept applications for a second MBA. For example, Duke, Dartmouth, Cornell, Berkeley, and UCLA do not accept second MBA applications.

Here is a link to a table which lists schools and whether or not they accept second MBA applications https://www.essaycom.com/india/2ndmbalist.htm . If one of the schools you are interested in is not on the list then you should check the school's website on contact the admissions office directly.
