To Apply or Not To Apply - that's my question

I was thinking that I would apply to NYU's part-time MBA program (specifically for their Media & Technology MBA). I recently took the GMAT and didn't do as well as I wanted and was below their 80% range of 610-720.

I am wondering whether I should apply or not because I had a decent 3.6 GPA from Georgetown undergrad and have work experience from a large media conglomerate and consulting firm but my GMAT score was close to the bottom range but not quite there.

If everything but my GMAT scores are good (i.e. recommendation, GPA, work experience, essays) - should I apply or should I wait to apply next semester and retake the GMAT in the meantime?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Dear hoya2004:

I would encourage you to retake the GMAT, maybe take a prep course, and try to get your score up. Depending on the final deadline for the program, that might mean waiting to apply until next semester. If the final deadline is by June 1, then you should probably wait as it is hard to prepare for the GMAT in under two months while working full-time. If you can't afford a prep course, then find a way to take as many computer-based practice tests as possible. Your score is not only a function of getting the right answers, but how many questions you answer. Thus it is imperative you can get through the questions at the right pace.
