Though trained in Sweden, the renowned doctor has spent most of her life in Africa, grew up in Kenya as the eldest of a missionary couple's six children, attended prep school in Namibia, and after college and medical school in Sweden, did graduate work in the Congo and Zimbabwe.

A. grew up in Kenya as the eldest of a missionary couple's six children, attended prep school in Namibia, and after college and medical school in Sweden, did
B. has grown up in Kenya as the eldest of a missionary couple's six children, has attended prep school in Namibia, and after college and medical school in Sweden, did
C. having grown up in Kenya as the eldest of a missionary couple's six children, attended prep school in Namibia, and after college and medical school in Sweden, having done
D.growing up in Kenya as the eldest of a missionary couple's six children, attending prep school in Namibia, and, after college and medical school in Sweden, doing
E. growing up in Kenya as the eldest of a missionary couple's six children, attending prep school in Namibia, and, after college and medical school in Sweden, she did

While this is not the tightest question around, the answer is gettable.

A. grew up in Kenya as the eldest of a missionary couple's six children, attended prep school in Namibia, and after college and medical school in Sweden, did

This version is maybe ok. The parallelism is questionable, in that has spent is not exactly parallel to grew up, attended and did. Still I find the construction to be sort of OK, but I have a feeling that another answer choice is going to be better, maybe because of meaning. So I am going to keep looking.

B. has grown up in Kenya as the eldest of a missionary couple's six children, has attended prep school in Namibia, and after college and medical school in Sweden, did

Once again, construction seems basically grammatically ok, if possibly a little awkward. Still, I think that there is something about the meaning that could be better. So I am going to look for another answer choice.

C. having grown up in Kenya as the eldest of a missionary couple's six children, attended prep school in Namibia, and after college and medical school in Sweden, having done

This one lacks parallelism. It starts with having and then having is unnecessarily repeated before done. Also, has spent in the non underlined portion is in the present perfect, and that tense is not quite logically matched by having grown up etc., which all convey that the events took place place in the past.

D.growing up in Kenya as the eldest of a missionary couple's six children, attending prep school in Namibia, and, after college and medical school in Sweden, doing

The list in this one is parallel, and also the tenses match. So it effectively conveys that she has spend most of her life in Africa and then growing up, attending and doing correctly modify and further explain the main idea.

So the grammatical construction of this one is tight AND the meaning conveyed is logical.

E. growing up in Kenya as the eldest of a missionary couple's six children, attending prep school in Namibia, and, after college and medical school in Sweden, she did

The list in this one is not parallel. growing up, attending and she did are not parallel.

The best answer choice is D.
