Right. But why A is correct? CRITIQUE refers the BOOK.

Yes....IMO there is no problem in the same....

Critique = sth that tells +/- of something....the same is done by the book....

"a critique...." is acting as appositive here....i.e. telling more about the noun i.e. book preceding it.....
