Assume x – 2, x, and x + 2 are the three consecutive odd integers, where x is an odd number.
We have 3(x – 2 + x + 2) = 8x – 6, 3x – 6 + 3x + 6 = 8x - 6 or 6x = 8x – 6.
Then we have 2x – 6 = 0 or x = 3.
Thus, the smallest integer is x – 2 = 3 – 2 = 1.
Therefore, A is the correct answer.
