Do a good portion of your tests timed and then go back and reivew them, this will help in what is doable. remember not every question should take the same amount of time. Personally I don't tell people to do anything I don't do on the GMAT but I do ask a lot of my students. The trick is to get good enough at doing your approach that you can do it - also you can't do everything everyone says - I prefer finding one approach and sticking to it so you know that things are doable.

I'm not a fan of any strategy that will tell you to take notes or write things down during the verbal section. It will take you long enough to read and understand everything, that you won't have enough time to take notes and finish the seciton in time. One thing that you may find helpful though is to take notes during your prep and eventually begin to phase it out. You can use the notes to train your mind about how to think about each question type. That is the real value of the notes.
