unqualified support (C.D.E)

I suppose this is a gmat prep Q.(googled) Just wanted to let knw if someone doesnt want to solve for obvious reasons.

I solved this question by applying the knowledge of parts of speech...adjectives and adverbs placement and all...is there any other approach to solve this question please share or you guys also followed this same approach????

The three women, liberal activists who strongly support legislation in favor of civil rights and environmental protection, have consistently received labor's unqualifying support.
Initial Analysis: Subject, Verb, Modifier I doubt on the red part.

A. have consistently received labor's unqualifying support
uses possesive pronoun. Thus doubtful but will keep it as contender.
B. are consistently receiving the unqualifying support of labor
Changes the meaning of original sentence. The original sentence tries to convey that the support is over but this sentence points on that they are still receiving and continue to receive the support. In short, this option uses present continous tense over simpe past tense.

C. have consistently received the unqualified support of labor
I feel this to be more appropriate over A as this one removes the usage of possesive pronoun while maintaining the correct tense. Contender.
D. receive consistent and unqualified support by labor - present tence.
E. are receiving consistent and unqualified support by labor- same as B.

Please correct as I am very poor at tenses.

C is best choice but I could not understand whats wrong with A?

Very true Ankur.

But I preferred to give second choice to possesive pronoun. If C was not written as it is now, I would have choosen A.

However, I am also looking forward for some fundas on Possesive pronoun.

As you asked about my approach here is my answer:-

Well i applied the knowledge of parts of speech. In the sentence, THREE WOMEN (NOUN-SUB) and SUPPORT (NOUN-OBJECT), and we know that ADJ modify (NOUN) and ADV modify (VERB and ADJ)

Thats it, this is all we want to know

Op A:- Although i read this rule somewhere that an -ING form, if immediately following a Possessive then that choice is almost always wrong, because it create AWKWARDNESS (for more info see the link provided by Rohu), But see this option in terms of parts of speech..please try to understand patiently..

if this option is correct, then it means

labor's(Adv) unqualifying(Adj) support(N)....this is not correct..why see,

Reason 1:-

we know "support" is a noun, so, "unqualifying" should be an ADJ which is suspicious because i know unqualified is an ADJ for sure that means "unqualifying" is not an ADJ, Moreover, "unqualifying" seems like an ADV, and later i come to know "unqualifying" is actually not even a word in dictonary, but even if u consider this as an adverb then the placement is wrong as it can not modify a noun "support"

Reason 2:-

Even if you missed the above point then look at the POSSESSIVE...As per my knowledge, Possessive always works as ADJECTIVES, not ADV etc...so even if you missed and consider "unqualifying" as an adjective, still the placement of possessive labor's is wrong...how can an ADJ modify another ADJ...

I hope now you are clear why OP A is incorrect

For Op B, i use reason 1, as i was sure about the existence of ADJ "unqualified"..hence use of "unqualifying support" is wrong

For OP D, E:--- this is tricky

see the words "receive" and "are receiving" are VERBS...and the word CONSISTENT is an adjective and an adjective can be placed after verb..so here its correctly placed...moreover, "consistent and unqualified" are acting as ADJ and modifying NOUN "support" so everything seems correct then what's wrong??? well the use of "by labor" in these answer choices make them passive and less preferable over Op C which is clear and uses "consistently (ADV) received (V)" and "unqualified (ADJ)support(N)"....correctly
