Hi All,

We're told that the temperatures in degrees Celsius recorded at 6 in the morning in various parts of a certain country were 10, 5, -2, -1, -5, and 15. We're asked for the MEDIAN of these temperatures.

To determine the MEDIAN of a group of numbers, we first have to put those numbers in order from least to greatest. Here, that would be...

-5, -2, -1, 5, 10, 15

Since there are 6 numbers in the group, the MEDIAN will be the AVERAGE of the 'middle two' numbers. That would be (-1 + 5)/2 = 4/2 = 2

Final Answer: C

Arrange in ASCENDING order: -5 -2, -1, 5, 10, 15
Since we have an EVEN number of values, the median will be the average of the two middlemost values.
So, median = (-1 + 5)/2 = 4/2 = 2

Answer: C

We list the data values in ascending order. The median is the average of the two middle values of -5, -2, -1, 5, 10, and 15, which is is (-1 + 5)/2 = 2.
