We are asked to find what 100 students would say. This is equivalent to finding the required percent of students.

Number of students who said a dog was their favorite = 258.
Total number of students surveyed = 430.

The required percent of students is equal to 258 divided by 430. This is equal to 0.6 or equivalently 60%. Therefore, 60 out of 100 students would say dog.

258 divided by 430 = 0.6 = 60 out of 100
