The per liter price of vehicular fuel has increased by 25%. If the transportation cost is still the same, then what is the ratio of the reduction in fuel consumption to the previous fuel consumption?
(A) 1:8
(B) 1:6
(C) 1:5
(D) 1:4
(E) 1:3

The per liter price of vehicular fuel has increased by 25%. If the transportation cost is still the same, then what is the ratio of the reduced fuel consumption to the previous fuel consumption?
(A) 1:8

The previous price per liter of vehicular fuel was x.

The price per liter of vehicular fuel now is 5x/4.

The car originally used to waste y liters in transportation.

Total previous cost of fuel=xy

z*(5x/4)=xy

z=xy*4/5x=4y/5

(4y/5)/(y)=4/5

why isn't this an answer choice? Have I done something wrong?

Your approach is correct

I guess question wants to calculate the ratio of reduction in fuel consumption to previous fuel consumption..
But its worded as reduced fuel consumption to previous fuel consumption ....could have been worded better
