Does any one know if "due to" is used correctly here? I thought "due to" is used with nouns only, and that "because of" is used with clauses.

For example, this is WRONG: I have to stay up all night DUE TO the presentation that I must finish.
But, this is RIGHT: From the helicopter, I saw a six-mile traffic jam DUE TO an overturned truck.

I just called Veritas and they insisted that this is used correctly.

Due to means "caused by". It should only be used if it can be substituted with "caused by". So, I don't think it is correct to use "due to" in this sentence. Expert comments on this, would be appreciated.

I beleive "due to" is standing in for "because".. A similar input I have captured from a Mitch Hunt's mail but lost the link now...

yup I also feel that the use of "due to" in A option is not correct because if we replace it with "caused by" then the sentence doesn't make any sense...........I found a SC almost similar to the one in 1000 SC

Building large new hospitals in the bistate area would constitute a wasteful use of resources, on the basis of avoidance of duplicated facilities alone.

(A) on the basis of avoidance of duplicated facilities alone
(B) on the grounds of avoiding duplicated facilities alone
(C) solely in that duplicated facilities should be avoided
(D) while the duplication of facilities should be avoided
(E) if only because the duplication of facilities should be avoided

constructions are not 100 % similar.........I just mentioned it for reference.........the missing part in my sentence is the usage of "due to"
