"The premiums for personal property coverage are not affected"
Vs
"The premiums for personal property coverage is not affected"

Which one of the above is correct ?

Will the article "The" before premiums make it singular ?

IMO both sentences are incorrect.

'The premium' will make it a better sentence (The premium ....is...)

This is just as 'The numbers../ A numbers...' == incorrect

'The number / A number == correct

I feel the first sentence i.e "The premiums for personal property coverage are not affected" is the correct one. Subject over here is premiums & precedence of article the will not have any effect

For example: The Cathedrals in London are holic

The refers to a particular case/cases. Herein the refers to particular cathedrals but the subject in essence is cathedrals. Hence plural are should follow.
