The difference between the value of a number increased by 12 ½ percent and the value of the original number decreased by 25 percent is 30. What is the original number?
(A) 40
(B) 60
(C) 80
(D) 120
(E) 160

only value possible is 80

let the original number be x therefore,
1.125x-.75x=30;
.375x=30
x=80;
hence C

Let original number = N
(N + 0.125N) - (N - 0.25N) = 30
0.375N = 30 implies N = 80
The correct answer is C.
