The health benefits of tea have been the subject of much research; in addition to its possibilities for preventing and inhibiting some forms of cancer, the brewed leaves of Camellia sinensis may also
play a role in reducing the risk of heart disease and stroke.

A. in addition to its possibilities for preventing and inhibiting
B. in addition to its possibilities to prevent or inhibit
C. besides the possibility that it prevents and inhibits
D. besides the possible preventing and inhibiting of
E. besides possibly preventing or inhibiting
OA is E and am ok with OA. I have one doubt, is 'in addition to' considered wordy when compared to besides

You mean 'its' should have possessive antecedent ?

Hi,
'besides ' and 'in addition to' are meaning-wise same. But, if everything else is same and you have to choose one of them, go for the shorter one 'besides'.
Cheers!

the only thing it its can refer to is the leaves hence agreement error left with D and E of which E looks the best

The sentences with in addition to have other problems, so I think the ones with besides score on that account as well.

i looked at it this way, it may well have other issues.
prevent and inhibit mean the same thng. so it shud be prevent or inhibit.
coz of the parallelsim isseu preventing, inhibiting, reducing - we are left wth A D and E
go for E as it has OR.
