The growing demand for housing, traffic congestion, and longer commuting trips has all but
eliminated the cost advantage of owning a house in many rural communities.
(A) The growing demand for housing, traffic congestion, and longer commuting trips has
(B) Traffic congestion, the growing demand for housing, and longer commuting trips has
(C) Longer commuting trips, traffic congestion, and the growing demand for housing has
(D) Traffic congestion, longer commuting trips, and the growing demand for housing have
(E) The growing demand for housing, as well as traffic congestion and longer commuting trips, have

There are 3 items in the list: a) growing demand for housing b) traffic congestion c) longer commuting trips - all these joined by 'and' - hence we need the plural pronoun "HAVE" instead of singular "HAS".

options A, B and C are out.

Next, the order of items in the list gives an impression that there is a growing demand for 1) housing 2) traffic congestion and 3) longer commuting times - which isn't the case. The order needs to be changed to clearly convey the message. E is out.

Hence the correct answer is D.

hope the explanation helps.

parallel, S- V agreement
A, B, C is eliminated because of singular verb "has' while S " noun phrase need plural verb

D is better than E , when noun phrase is stated in parallelism
Please share your idea and your reasoning :D
