Area of the walk = x*4 + 100*4 = 400 + 4x
Area of the plaza = 1/2*x*(100 - 4) = 48x

Thus, the total area of the plaza and walk together = 400 + 4x + 48x = 400 + 52x = 10,800 => x = 200 feet

The correct answer: A

We see that the vertical side of the plaza is 4 feet less than 100, or 96 feet. Therefore, the area of the plaza is ½ * x * 96 = 48x square feet. The area of the walkway is 4(x + 100) = 4x + 400 square feet. Since the total area of the plaza and the walkway is 10,800 square feet, we can create the equation:

48x + 4x + 400 = 10,800

52x = 10,400

x = 200

Answer: A

Let's add a line to divide the figure into 3 separate shapes

(area of blue triangle) + (area of red rectangle) + (area of green rectangle) = 10,800
Area of triangle = (base)(height)/2
So, we get: (x)(96)/2 + 4x + (4)(100) = 10,800
Simplify: 48x + 4x + 400 = 10,800
Simplify: 52x + 400 = 10,800
Subtract 400 from both sides to get: 52x = 10,400
Solve: x = 10,400/52 = 200

Answer: A
