The figure above represents a rectangular garden bordered by a walkaway that has a uniform width of 3 feet. What's the perimeter of the garden?

(1) The outer perimeter of the walkaway is 124 feet

Say the length of the garden is a feet and breadth is b feet; thus, the length of the outer walkway = a + 3 and the breadth of the outer walkway = b + 3.

We have to get the value of 2(a + b).

Let's take each statement one by one.

(1) The outer perimeter of the walkway is 124 feet.

2[(a + 3) +(b + 3)] = 124 => [(a + 3) +(b + 3)] = 62 => a + b = 56. Sufficient.

(2) The area of the garden is 600 feet.

ab = 600. We cannot find the unique value of (a + b). Insufficient.

The correct answer: A
