In Option A - INCORRECT.
This option would have been right, aside it been a repetition of the question it also lack the use of punctuation mark '','' which would have giving the sentence more formation.

In Option B - INCORRECT.
This option is almost correct but lacks the continuous use of past participle tense in describing the long past event.

In Option C - INCORRECT.
This option lacks Adjectival phrase that is meant to describe the Noun in this sentence.

In Option D - CORRECT.
This option well describes the story of the past event. The sentence formation is simple and well explanatory. It maintained the use of past particle and the use of ''but'' well described that later part of the story.

In Option E - INCORRECT.
This option started well but ended not been consistent with the chosen words. Also the use of punctuation mark was omitted after the ''though''
