Option A - Incorrect
The use of ''being'' in this passage is unnecessary. It doesn't change the meaning of the sentence if it is removed. It also compares the act of being a simple communication device to ''versatile entertainment centre''.

Option B - Incorrect
Using ''centres'' in this option is saying that the telephone is performing two different roles and also ''cellphone' which is the subject is in singular, so ''centres'' cannot be correct in this sentence.

Option C - Incorrect
It breaks the parallelism by adding a verb in between the two entities, thereby creating a comparison between 'simple communication device' to the act of being a versatile entertainment centre. Also the use of the adverb ''rapidly'' doesn't really matter because there's no adjective or adverb it is modifying in the passage.

Option D - Correct
It shows correct parallelism and uses singular 'centre' to match 'cellphone'.

Option E - Incorrect
The use of 'centres' which is plural doesn't show correlation with the subject 'cellphone' which is singular.
