The average temperature of the first 3 days of a test match was 25degrees. The average temperature of the 2nd,3rd and 4th day was 24degrees. If the temperature on the 4th day was 27degrees, what was the temperature on the 1st day?

A. 21 degrees
B. 24 degrees
C. 27 degrees
D. 30 degrees
E. 31 degrees

The OA is D.

Just because something is hard doesn't mean you shouldn't try,it means you should just try harder.

ok so if av temp is 27 instead of 270 ,
let the days be denoted by alphabets A,B,C,D,E
A+B+C = 75
B+C+D =72
D=27
-->B+C =72-27 =45
--> A= 75 - (A+B) = 75- 45 = 30 Ans D

IMO D

Temp of 4th day was 27 i.e. 3 degree more than the avg.
So the combined temp of 2nd & 3rd day was (24+ 24 -3) = 45.
The temp of the 1st day (25 X 3 - 45)

replacing day1 by day4 decreases avg by 1.
i.e in effect decreases 3 degrees from the total.

OR

replacing day4 by day1 increases the avg by 1.
i.e in effect increases 3 degrees in the total.

Hence, (day2 and day3 constant), day1 has to be day4 + 3 degrees.

27+3 = 30 :)
