I believe GMAT is about 3 things: 1.Practice 2. Review 3.Stamina

General advice is to take full-length practice tests 30-45 days before the actual GMAT or when the student completes at least 80% of the test topics. But not before that. I think this is because the low test scores due to incomplete preparation would dent student's confidence and the student would have exhausted all the tests by the time he completes all the test topics.

Well, I don't mind If my scores are low initially as along as I get the 3 things mentioned above. Pratice tests can be bought from different course providers. This is my plan:

1. Kaplan - 6 tests
Reason: Toughest test. Will score less, but I prepare better as I fail more. Losing confidence
earlier is better than losing it later.

2. MasterGMAT - got quite a few, so till a month before GMAT. Not sure about their toughness.

3. Manhattan GMAT - last 4-5 weeks. Save the best for the last.

While Practice Tests are definitely necessary, I actually wouldn't take more than 6-8 of them total. Remember to emphasize quality over quantity in your studies. Taking 15 practice tests will not improve your score. Content knowledge and solid strategies will.

My advice is to spend more time working on strategy for CR, RC and DS and build your content-knowledge for SC and PS; I think you'll make stronger jumps in your test scores and your overall confidence level will increase.

Stick to the best books: MGMAT Number Properties, the OGs, Powerscore CR, etc. and only the most reputable online resources like BTG and Grockit.

I also recommend you take the GMATPreps - You'll want to thoroughly understand the reasoning behind every question in that bank, so I would take one maybe 60% of the way through your studies, and then take the final one about 2 weeks out.

After(70-80% preparation) - Test Every Weekend

Before - Test every fortnight
