Galileo did not invent the telescope but on hearing in 1609,that such an optical instrument had been made he quickly built his own device from an organ pipe and spectacle lense.

A)Galileo did not invent the telescope but on hearing in 1609,that such an optical instrument had been made

B)Galileo had not invented the telescope,but when he heard,in 1609,of such an optical instrument having been made

c)Galileo,even though he had not invented the telescope,onhearing,in 1609,that such an optical instrument had been made,he

IMO:A

Galileo did not invent the telescope(,) but on hearing in 1609,that such an optical instrument had been made

, seems to be missing!

Please correct me if am wrong!

I agree with GMATK to some extent, but A looks best to me among the choices. I arrived at A because i found other sentences to be more wrong than A. 'B' does not look right if you see the events chronologically. For C. 'he' after the comma is unwarranted. D needs a 'he' before "quickly built........". E has a redundancy as it used 'Even though' & 'But' in the same sentence.

Plz remember to share the OA.

May be 'A' is also incorrect as we do not require a comma after 1609 or require a comma before "but on hearing in 1609" as GMATKISS mentioned. Is the Question 100% accurate?

does option D involve the error of back to back modifier?
