Tania GMAT

by harsh.champ » Sun Feb 07, 2010 11:42 am
Tania prepares for the GMAT examination by practicing for 100 days. On any of these 100 days she does not solve more than 20 questions. If on any day, she solves more than 12 questions, then she solves at most 6 questions each on the next two days. What is the maximum possible number of questions that she can solve over the period of 100 days?

(A)1200
(B)1208
(C)1220
(D)960
(E)1240

The OA is B.
It takes time and effort to explain, so if my comment helped you please press Thanks button :)

Just because something is hard doesn't mean you shouldn't try,it means you should just try harder.

If Tania solves 20 questions on 1st day so she will be solving at most 6 question on 2nd and 3rd day.
so on an average she solves (20+6+6)/3 = 10.67 questions per day.
But if she solve 12 questions everyday. she can solve max possible no of question for 99 days and 20 question on last day.
so total = 12*99 + 20 = 1208

The Answer is B.[/quote]

Say if she solves 20 questions one day , second day n third day she can at max solve 6 questions
max avg = 10.67

Solving a consistent 12 is better than that

she solves 12 questions per day for 99 days and on 100th day she solves 20 questions
total = 12*99+20 =1208
