Taking Practice Test while Prepping?

Is it useful to take practice tests every Saturday even when adequate studying hasn't been done? I'm really weak in my math so I've been studying up on that and don't know if it's worth taking full practice tests and reviewing concepts when I don't know all the tricks yet. Is it better to just keep studying concepts until I've cleared studying for both sections or should I just go ahead and take them and review later?

Assuming you have a couple months before your test, I'd put in some study before bothering with a practice test. At the very least, review your math fundamentals. The quant section will be rough if you don't have the basics down, and may be unreasonably discouraging.

Hi VP_Jim

I have not yet taken my GMAT date but plan to give it within the next 2 weeks. I will be retaking it after a dismal performance on 14 October '08.
While preparing for my 2nd attempt i have not really given any practise test, except for a Powerprep before beginning preparation in which i scored a 650 Q 48 V31.

Since then i have been working on my SC's OG 10 Q's topic wise. What should be my ideal course of study during the next 2 weeks? I plan to wrap up with all my concepts in Quant and CR bible by the end of next week[14 Nov] and then give 3 practice tests in the week before my exam.[Tentative date for exam 22 Nov]

I'm sure your valuable suggestions will help me go a long way!!

I recommend to do as many practice tests as you can find; this site has some free practice tests/questions:
