1) The way Scott and John run is/are funny - IS. The way is the subject. Grammatically, The way scott and John runs IS funny. The way is singular and verb should be singular.


2) The way Scott runs and the way John runs is/are funny - ARE. 2 ways are combined using And. So this one must use the plural form.

Clear? Or did I push you further into darkness?

Here We are interested in - 1) The way Scott runs AND 2) the way John runs. So basically it seems they both run in 2 different manner and those 2 WAYS are now under the consideration. SO 2 WAYS = PLURAL = Plural ARE.

There is a difference in the way the term turnover and the term revenue are used in business across ...

This is deemed correct.

a) Is is part of difference. Fine.

b) Let's take it out and just view: The way the term turnover and the term revenue is/are used. "Are" is the suggested answer.I'm still pretty confused here.(This is not OG problem. If someone has OG data point that can shed light on this please recc. Thanks.)

yes. the usage is are. which kinda conflict with the info above. cuz the subject is "The way"

No, the subject here is The way the term turnover AND the way the term revenue. We are considering 2 different ways together So its plural. We pull out The way 2nd time to shorten it without introducing any error.
Also notice the start There is a difference, Difference would be between 2 things(in this case the 2 ways), this also gives a clue of Plural subject.

Singular Subject + Singular Subject = Plural subject --> Hence ARE

But The way Scott and John run IS.... wouldn't you be able to insert the way in front of John here?

Here it is a common WAY which is applicable to both.
In case you Insert The way before JOHN, den it will be ARE

In previous case we were differentiating, For that we need two things to differentiate. And thos two things were 2 Ways of each individual.

It would be ARE
for the same reason
Singular+Singular=Plural

My two cents-

1) The way Scott and John run is/are funny

Here the sentence talks about "the way" (Scott and John run) and that particular "way" IS funny.
Since, we talk about that very "way", it is Singular.

2) The way Scott runs and the way John runs is/are funny

Here the sentence talks about "the way Scott runs" and "the way John runs" so in all it talks about "two ways", which is Plural.
